Here’s a video of City Administrator Rick Hess explaining the map. He says all existing mobile home parks will be grandfathered in and not subject to the new requirements. KOMU 8 News

Hess says the FEMA storm shelters would be a good thing because a tornado or other big storm could cause a lot of damage to each home. KOMU 8 News

The Truman VA held a groundbreaking ceremony today for a new outpatient clinic in Jefferson City. KOMU 8 News

The facility will expand the current Jefferson City clinic from 7,625 square feet to 10,476 square feet. It will feature 12 exam rooms KOMU 8 News

Veteran Leon Delong says he attends the current VA clinic in Jefferson City for physicals, but for more serious care, he, like many other veterans would have to travel to Columbia. KOMU 8 News

In addition to expanding the space, the new facility will offer specialized care like optometry, podiatry and audiology on site. KOMU 8 News

American Legion Post 5 Commander Vince Rost says it’s important that there are many facilities for veterans to receive care. KOMU 8 News

Construction is expected to begin in the next 60 days. VA officials say they hope the clinic will be open and active by December. KOMU 8 News

Medical Center Director David Isaacks says it’s important to bring care out to veterans that live in rural communities. This way, they don’t have to travel as much. KOMU 8 News
