Congrats to all the hard work of the PostgreSQL community on PostgreSQL 17! Amazing how PostgreSQL continues to get faster and more fun to use :)

This pgvector release gives you more options for efficient, performant filtering (WHEREs, JOINs) and tools to avoid the "overfiltering" problem. You may find using a PostgreSQL B-tree, GiST, or GIN index does the trick with filters! Also, HNSW lookups are just faster 🚀.

I've published my @PGConfEU 2024 talk slides on pgvector internals, aka "Dissimilarity search: implementing in-memory vector search algorithms to PostgreSQL" (though pgvector 0.8.0 means I already have to update the deck!): postgresql.eu/events/pgconfe…

Happy and sad day - PostgreSQL 17.1 is now out (so you should upgrade to that 😉), but sad to see PostgreSQL 12 now EOL - that was a great performance release, so thanks for the memories!

You don't deploy on a Friday, but you announce out-of-cycle releases for the following week. If you're dependent on `ALTER ROLE ... SET ROLE` in in PostgreSQL your workflow, hold off on upgrading until this next release comes out.

Not often there's two PostgreSQL update releases in a row - but we should be good until the regularly scheduled one in February. And this is really the last release of PostgreSQL 12 ;-) postgresql.org/about/news/pos…

The 2025 CFP deadline is now January 6th! Procrastinators rejoice! We heard many of you get your best ideas during an end-of-year break, so we've extended the 2025 CFP to January 6th. Consider it a gift from the organizing team to you ;) 2025.pgconf.dev/cfp.html

My holiday wish is that we will get loads of great submissions to the PGConf.dev 2025 CFP (by Jan 6). Check out Robert Haas’s great blog post for ideas on what to submit and why.
