This is important work by Andrea Garnero Tito Boeri and Lorenzo G. Luisetto. Noncompetes have drawn so much attention in the US. But not in Europe. Why? Probably a lack of data. This work shows that many of the same issues related to noncompetes in the US arise in Italy too.
