🐦🦌 Thrilled to be a coauthor on @BrodieEcology's @nature paper! Our research finds that protected areas in Southeast Asia not only preserve bird diversity within, but also boost mammal diversity beyond their boundaries. No "leakage", but a beneficial "spillover" effect. #30x30

It's critical to know the limitations of your methods. Robust ground truth datasets are essential for that! Airborne lidar holds much promise for studying 3D vegetation structure at scale but still some way to go before it sheds light on what's happening below the canopy. 🌳🔎
