This is a very inspiring story about the restoration of the Klamath River on the Oregon/Calfornia border through the removal of 4 dams on it that had blocked the migration of salmon & other fish. “It has been more successful than we ever imagined.” theguardian.com/us-news/2025/j…

Police investigating after two lynx are spotted near Kingussie. However regrettable this is what happens when no progress at all can be made with intransigent opponents. Be careful about the statements worrying about welfare is a cover for shooting them. strathspey-herald.co.uk/news/fury-over…

‘Lynx captured in Highlands’ So it was lynx, and they haven’t been shot, but humanly captured and taken to a wildlife centre. Phew. Perhaps when Scotland (or England) does finally get round to reintroducing lynx these can be the first ones to go out? bbc.com/news/articles/…

We will be discussing deer management on RTE Ear to the Ground @ 7pm. The most recent data shows 78,025 wild deer were culled in Ireland over a 12 month period. Regardless of when a species was introduced or their origins all deer need to managed in sustainable & ethical manner.

When asked, most people (72.4%) living near lynx in Norway say they LIKE living with lynx. Just 8.3% say they dislike lynx. In Scotland, where we're currently denied the opportunity to live near lynx, the majority of people WANT to see lynx reintroduced. scotlandbigpicture.com/lynx-to-scotla…

Kingussie release of lynx pair angers farmers and crofters. These guys are of course not that keen on prosecutions for those who kill birds of prey. inverness-courier.co.uk/news/cairngorm…

‘Fears of rogue rewilding in Scottish Highlands after further lynx sightings’ Good comprehensive piece by ⁦Patrick Greenfield⁩ on the weirdest wildlife story of 2025 so far. Some of the press (and police) reactions so far have been hilariously bonkers! theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/j…

I went looking for an old forest but found a small abandoned "clochán" or hamlet long since abandoned, and now enveloped in spruce. Slaghbooly/Salach Buaile - Muddy pasture/milking place. Down the rabbit hole I went!! 🧵

apple.news/AI9Ib3a7UQm-JA…. Ben is spot on right. It is a malevolent agri lobby doing all it can to keep its tax payers money and way of life combined with strong elements of a pathetically inept nature conservation movement that just stops everything happening other than talk.

"The malevolence of a small, organised rural cabal that is opposed to any kind of wildlife recovery, and the stranglehold it has over weak-kneed government officials, simply cannot be overstated" – spot on Ben Goldsmith – exactly the case with beavers too. spectator.co.uk/article/bring-…

🧵Snapshot of woodland in the barony of Corcomroe in the 17th Century With GIS I over overlaid William Petty’s Down Survey of Corcomroe (c 1656) on modern layers. The wooded areas comprised mostly of ‘dwarf wood’ or ‘underwood’ but some ‘timberwoods’ are also recorded

Modeling is great...but still quite inaccurate, particularly at smaller scale, ie <1 hectare, which is the scale many important habitats exist these days. This long-established sessile oak woods is noted as scrub, and the birch woods across the valley isn't picked up at all.

Tim Farron Forbidding growing of daffodils, biofuels, cereals for feeding to cattle and sheep, corn for pheasants, rescue horse grazing, lama keeping, barley for alcohol, etc, etc would also free up huge areas of land for human food and cutting the 3rd that we waste would also count.

Ó Foghlú (@rayofoghlu) 's Twitter Profile Photo

There should be no Pillar 2 payments on farms where there is a net biodiversity loss occurring. It's a waste of taxpayers moneys to pay farmers who ripped out hedges to put in bird boxes.

A great study would be to estimate the value of unpaid work farmers do for people in the country who get themselves in bother.
