10 rating upgrades and 3 positive outlook from the rating agencies over the last 5 months says it all. The City has turned a financial corner, all in the midst of the pandemic and all thanks to the Mayor’s leadership.

Laurence Msall was a mentor, advisor, intellectual, advocate, civic leader and most of all a good friend and human being. His voice and constant advocacy for good financial policy helped guide Chicago in our pathway to financial turnaround. You will be missed Laurence.

The Civic Federation welcomed Jennie Bennett, Susie Park and Reshma Soni from Mayor Brandon Johnson’s fiscal team as guest speakers at our Board of Directors meeting this morning. They discussed Chicago’s financial achievements over the past four years. We thank them for joining us!

The City sold $1.1 billion in water/wastewater bonds this week on the heels of 6 rating upgrades, the first new water supply contract for the City in 40 years totaling $1B in value, a 20-year finance plan to fund lead service line replacements and a bond covenant modernization.

Despite the pandemic, we achieved the lowest sustained projected budget gaps in the City’s history, 13 rating upgrades and 3 positive outlooks, the first upgrades in as much as 25 years. It’s been an honor and privilege to serve the City with Mayor Lightfoot.

10 years ago, I married the love of my life at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. We fell in love over a campfire and we now take our kids camping. That’s why I’m excited to join the board of the Museum and to support its mission to create a positive relationship between people and nature.

Rose was a devoted public servant in an often thankless job which she carried out with nothing but kindness and grace. She was such an important part of #TeamComms and Chicago City Budget. What a loss, not just for those of us who knew and loved her, but for the entire city. 🤍
