People often ask for an age range for my books, and I don't like to give an upper range. I often hear from adults who read my books, and today, I heard that a fifteen-year-old has reread 'The Adventurers'. The world can be a dark place, and my funny ol' stories are here for all!

Reading for pleasure is at a low. Part of tackling this has to be giving children the agency to choose reading material, instead of dismissing choices as not being "challenging enough" or "not a proper book." To encourage reading for fun, let children choose what they find fun.

My new book 'When the War Comes In' is set in my hometown of Wallsend where Sting also grew up. This is the house where he lived in as a boy, just a stone's throw away from shipyard which plays a vital part in my story. I think they missed a trick by not calling it 'Woksanne'.
