Grass carp are considered to be one of the most imminent aquatic invasive species to threaten the Great Lakes. They are voracious eaters that can destroy valuable habitat and outcompete native fish for food. #InvSpWk

Norway maple can invade natural areas and ravines around cities due to their use in landscaping. They establish quickly and form dense canopies creating shaded areas on the forest floor that limit the regeneration of native vegetation. #InvSpWk #InvasiveSpeciesAwarnessWeek

The first sign of hemlock woolly adelgid is a woolly mass at the base of needles. These tiny insects make a white wool-like wax to protect its eggs, on the underside of hemlock needles. #InvSpWk #hwa #InvasiveSpeciesAwarenessWeek #InvasiveSpecies

Emerald Ash borer is a wild card as far as invasives go. With no natural predators, high reproduction rates and a host with no natural defence it rapidly wiped out ash in its path. #InvSpWk #InvasiveSpecies #eab

Ghost pipe is strange plant that has no chlorophyll and cannot photosynthesise. Instead it acquires nutrients from neighbouring trees. Transport of nutrients occurs through the network of fungal hyphae. Many fungi and trees have this symbiotic relationship. #treetuesday
