Proud to know you, Red Yarn. Fantastic interview this morning with Ayesha Rascoe on Weekend Edition. Listen to it here to be inspired (npr.org/2022/04/24/109…) and then pre-order the album: smithandyarn.com

We enjoyed our conversation with students in Professor Kirsta Melton’s course on modern-day slavery. @Kammerkerwick and I discussed the complicated economics and corrupted supply chains around trafficking in persons. IDVSA @IC2institute #HookEm

As we kick off, #EDW2023 here’s hoping more communities will shift from solely focusing on business attraction, expansion, and development to complete community building with an emphasis on the #wellbeingeconomy. cc: IC² Institute #econdev #cities

I'm reminded that one issue close to George's heart, as the son of Russian immigrants, was doing what he could to help Russia's economic transformation in the 1990s. IC2 hosted a conference in 1999 with Los Alamos to find ways to partner with Russia's nuclear cities (1/2)

(2/2) to employ Russia's stranded nuclear software engineers in places like Nizhny and Sarov. Such commercial cooperation still seems a long way off, but George was always ahead of his time.

I especially connected with Dean Lucchinetti's emphasis on keeping humans at the center of AI innovation to ensure that we do everything we can to reduce bias. What an inspiring message she presented during her fireside chat with S. Craig Watkins.
