MN once had 18 million acres of prairie. Today, just over 1% of native prairie remains. MN state parks and trails are working to restore native prairie landscapes throughout the state. Prairies are vital to rare native species, like the American plains bison. #MNRareSpecies

Small herd sizes, crossbreeding with cattle & a lack of habitat have created long-term problems for bison. MN state parks & trails are working closely with the Minnesota Zoo & Olmsted County Parks to restore a genetically diverse herd back to the state.#MNRareSpecies
