New ergonomic z-ordering system should help to fix a lot of visual glitches reported during the playtest. Finally refactored one of the ugliest and oldest components of Jarl code. New code is based on layers, static/dynamic sorting groups and pivot points. #gamedev #2d #pixelart

One of the immediate benefits of the new z-ordering system is that with sorting groups, it's easy to implement an item dropping animation system by attaching a pivot point to the shadow on the ground to sort of fake altitude. Now planks are always drawn in front of trees #gamedev

Bevy 0.15 is out!

This weekend, while prototyping crafting in Jarl, I finally took some time to make a proper picking and outlining system for Bevy Engine. It now works with any hierarchy of drawable components. #indiegame #indiedev One remaining issue – fix render order.

While I don't have an exact timeline for v0.2.0 yet, I'm excited about the progress on the crafting system preview, and I hope to share more details soon. Happy New Year, everyone! 🎄
