Our new preprint shows our efforts to evaluate state-of-the-art long-read sequencing for genome-centric metagenomics. Started years ago by Rasmus Kirkegaard and continued by Mantas. tldr; HQ-MAGs using Oxford Nanopore -only is really close! PacBio is just nice! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Another great talk from Mantas Sereika from Aalborg University showing near-perfect Oxford Nanopore only bacterial genome assemblies, largely due to longer homopolymer resolution. At #nanoporeconf in the mini-theatre

Happy to share that my #ERCStG #CHIMERA has been selected for funding! In this European Research Council (ERC) project I will study #GiantViruses, their #evolution, their ecological interactions, and how these have shaped their #genomes. Big thanks to everyone that helped me get here!

Interested in functional analyses of microbes in complex samples? Check out our newest pre-print from the collaboration with the fantastic Ji-Xin Cheng lab. Here we use Mid-Infrared Photothermal - FISH to detect 13C-incorporation in FISH-identified cells arxiv.org/pdf/2209.03741…
