Bashir and Crawley are absolutely egregious selections of the Bazball era (which I love). Ignoring statistics is fine until you end up playing two people with some of the worst cricketing records in the history of the English game

Lots of commentary on votes for 16-17 yr olds. Opportunity for model tinkering + beltway analysis. Bigger point is that we’ve seen huge batches of seats change hands at the 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2024 elections driven by at least one party losing /gaining double digit vote shares

Love this post by John Burn-Murdoch. My latest substack (co-authored with Patrick Flynn) covers some aspects of neuroticism (an amazing coincidence) and its political associations. But the post is mainly about the role that agency plays in politics today

So interesting from James, agency and how much of it you think you have is such a key societal cleavage and is shaping our politics in all sorts of ways, beyond traditional left right - lines.

This from James Kanagasooriam is brilliant on why agency could save Britain. Read if you want to feel some optimism for a change. We need high agency people but also high agency culture - this is what it might look like: politicalwhiteboard.substack.com/p/agency-could…

Another banger piece by Charlotte Ivers on the UK’s lack of ambition and growth. “Living in Britain feels rather like being responsible for an intelligent yet lazy teenager. “You could be so great!” you want to burst into the country’s bedroom and yell. “You have so much
