Kevin Anderson (Kevin Anderson), energy and climate change professor, says compared to world leaders making decisions at #COP26 “the protestors and the civil society movements … are much more in line with what the science is calling for.”

Priority is cutting emissions this decade, argues Alice Larkin 🐝 TyndallManchester at #cop26 shipping event by Malin Group

“Manchester has a science based CO2 target thanks to Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research TyndallManchester“says Andy Burnham #cop26nw Good to hear its importance recognised &thanks to carly mclachlan @cwjonez JaiseClimate for their work on it.We must not lose sight of urgently cutting CO2 Policy@Manchester

The International Maritime Organization set their climate targets against a 2008 baseline. TyndallManchester calculates that since 2008, shipping has already used half of its Paris-compatible carbon budget for 1.5 degrees. International Maritime Organization needs to set tougher climate targets and policies asap, #MEPC77

Really excited to be starting a new EPSRC Fellowship with Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, working with @schmid_gallego and alongside Alice Larkin 🐝, Simon Bullock and others. The research will investigate the feasibility of how sail-assisted ships can optimise their voyage in real-time.

New PhD opportunity at the Tyndall Centre. How will future trade patterns change shipping demand in tomorrow’s low-carbon world? Reach out if you're interested or have any questions! Really enjoyed speaking to IoP Manchester last night, thanks to everyone that came!

I was very fortunate to be interviewed yesterday for the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research podcast, Tyndall Talks. In this new episode, myself and my colleague Asha talk about reducing carbon emissions from planes and ships, and what we can do as individuals to help. tyndall.ac.uk/podcasts/beyon…

With huge challenges around decarbonising liquid #fuels, here's an article based on new research from @jamesclimate UoM Science and Engineering Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research on an alternative route to cutting #CO2 from #ships & in the near term too theconversation.com/sails-and-sate… International Maritime Organization IMOclimate Department for Transport

New shipping/climate research from TyndallManchester assesses: i) whether the new International Maritime Organization targets are compatible with Paris climate goals ii) what these targets mean for the imminent refresh of the UK Department for Transport Clean Maritime Plan blog.policy.manchester.ac.uk/sci-tech/2024/…

1.5C demands unprecedented cuts in fossil fuel use *this* decade. How close is the international shipping sector & International Maritime Organization getting to this in terms of ambition, and what do the 2023 IMO targets imply for the UK's Clean Maritime Plan Refresh Department for Transport - read more here...

Do the IMO greenhouse gas targets for shipping align with the Paris Agreement? Our new paper and blog at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research digs deeper and outlines implications for UK shipping. Authored with Simon Bullock and Alice Larkin 🐝.
