How common is reinfection with SARS-CoV-2 in the omicron world? Basically, no protection from reinfection after 1 year 😬 nature.com/articles/s4158…

Excited to share Rowan Jacobsen's interview of me for Boston Magazine reflecting on the last 5 years of advocating for an investigation into a lab origin of Covid and what needs to be done to prevent future lab pandemics. The issue is on newsstands!

My job might be DOOMed to fail, but I certainly got a laugh out of it 😆 I love it when programmer's have a sense of humor (in this case, the people behind Cromshell).

This statement from RFK Jr "Genes are vulnerability. Environment is cause" is an upside down interpretation of the data. The evidence for genes as causal factors dwarfs the evidence for other factors. The other factors do exist, but evidence is weak compared to genes

It's incredible how far we have come from saturated mutagenesis of 1 gene (BRCA) in 2018 to now 500 protein domains. bsky.app/profile/jakphd…

Congrats to everyone involved in the long COVID GWAS - diligence and perseverance paid off with an association near FOXP4 that increases risk (OR=1.63; P=1.76e-10). nature.com/articles/s4158…

Whelp, the sale was premature. Former CEO, Anne Wojcicki, reopened the 23andMe auction with a new $305 million bid. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Year ago, the prevailing attitude was that deep learning would significantly improve polygenic risk scores (or anything else, to be fair). A rather important set of negative results indicating that isn't the case (though I imagine many will still try). nature.com/articles/s4146…

Heartbroken to share my mentor & friend Dr. Atul J. Butte Atul Butte has passed. He saw potential in me and turned it into opportunity-- for me, and so many others. We bonded over Star Trek and he was our Captain. Picard’s parting toast in his honor, final episode:
