Had a great time at the #EKTproject final conference in Santiago de Compostela. A special thank you to those who graciously listened to my round table contribution (in Spanish 😬) where I briefly summarised our findings about mentors as boundary crossers in teacher training.

‘a ‘misrecognition’ may be triggered where only a narrow interpretation of ‘research’ is deemed worthy as evidence on which to base policy meaning that more socially just alternatives may be overlooked’ A fantastic read and relevant to my own evidence-based practice research

Thank you to those who were able to attend yesterday’s presentation. The lively debate that followed was wonderfully thought provoking. As was today’s stimulating sessions. Thoroughly exhausted and (after some rest) am looking forward to two more busy days of #ECER2023

Off to a great start at BERA 2023 with a fabulous message from Rachel Lofthouse about universities ‘holding the space’ in professional learning. BERA #bera #bera2023 #phdjourney #researchers

Note that not a single “administrator” has taken a pay cut. #Universities have to teach. It’s what they are for. They are not “for” administering without any #teachers. Many have become topheavy with administrators, who just keep administering themselves more money and cutting

Completely forgot to tweet while Jan Rowe was speaking on Teacher Education in Crisis at #BERA2023 but she has re-named the DfE Golden Thread as the golden pot noodle. Just poor on water.

this was such a great symposium organised by Viv Ellis. i argued that we certainly should critique teacher education policies but more critiques should be paid to the original, root academic scholarship informing those policies and being cited in them. #BERA2023

In the opening panel at #BERA2023 I described the role of universities in “Holding the space for professional learning”. Here are my thoughts as a new blogpost. ⁦BERA⁩ ⁦CollectivED⁩ ⁦Carnegie Education⁩ leedsbeckett.ac.uk/blogs/carnegie…

So much of this resonates with me and with my research into how the use of, and training around, evidence-based interventions positions (and potentially deprofessionalises!) teachers. As an ex English teacher myself, the references to King Lear were appreciated too.

What do you invest in? You can buy new CPD products or hang out with the big merchandising edubrands. Or you can invest in time for professional learning. Quick wins rarely sustain positive changes.

Always one to bring a book wherever I went, for the last few years I’ve been mostly carrying the things I should read. With that pressure to finish having dissipated, my unread books are calling to me. I have a bunch stashed around but any recommendations of what to read first?
