New data: Long hours (≥60 per week) & extended shifts (≥24 hours) pose a danger to patient safety & to residents. The combination has a synergistic effect, amplifying medical errors, car crashes, and needle sticks. It’s time to rethink the way we’ve always done things.

We have to ensure that our trans Tennesseans don’t get treated or made to feel disposable. Trans patients are not political pawns. As this unfolds, we will continue to support our community members through this and hope to see amends made by VUMC in the face of state violence.

What’s happening in Tennessee with Vanderbilt sharing trans patients records is terrifying.

We take care of kids birth to 18, well to profoundly sick, neurotypical to nonverbal, & double as psychiatrists. We advocate for food, healthcare, safety for our kids while facing anti-vax harassment & anti-LGBTQ hate. We are the lowest paid medical specialty. #WeArePediatricians

I’m still processing this affirmative action decision and the impact it will have for the medical field. Black doctors save lives. Hispanic doctors save lives. Native doctors save lives. It is really that simple.
