Poetry chapbooks are rare in India, if not nonexistent. Kudos to Ashwani Kumar, co-founder, Indian Novels Collective & Dibyajyoti Sarma, publisher, Red River for publishing the Hummingbirds series. Priya Sarukkai Chabris’s Five Poems is among the four from its debut set of chaps.

My poem, "In Defense of Brother John (1971)" is in the Poet Lore Ekphrastic Folio, curated by jason b. crawford. When the film first came out, it received negative reviews. But the film itself feels like a lyric poem and is a cool blend Blaxploitation and Southern Gothic.
