Thread on a few recent post-starburst galaxy papers to come out. Dalya Baron led a paper out today (arxiv.org/abs/2204.11881) where we look at the total IR - based SFRs for several samples of PSB galaxies.

Today, the paper presenting the new version of the SIDES empirical simulation is out. The simulation now includes far-IR/mm continuum together with CO, CI, and CII. The Python code is also released. The paper discuss extensively the [CII] intensity mapping arxiv.org/abs/2204.12827

SOFIA Telescope will be ending operations in just a few months. This means that we will soon have no observatories operating in the far-infrared - the wavelength gap between JWST (which goes out to ~30 microns) and ALMA (which picks up at ~500 microns). We need to fill this gap!

Alignment of the James Webb Space Telescope is now complete!👏 These new engineering images of sharply focused stars in the field of view of each instrument demonstrate that #Webb is fully aligned and in focus. Learn more here: blogs.nasa.gov/webb/2022/04/2… 📷 : NASA/STScI

Globs of bright, beautiful dust. New images using data from four retired space telescopes provide a view of dust & gas that fill the space between stars in neighboring galaxies. The particles are exposed in far-infrared and radio light in these photos. go.nasa.gov/3xXZaez

A host of massive young stars ✨captured by #NSFfunded Gemini Observatory in an unprecedented sky survey. These new suns & their dusty, swirling, planet-forming disks are likely to become new solar systems. bit.ly/3NVeGgC 📷 GeminiObs/ NOIRLab /NSF/AURA/E. Rich University of Michigan

Last night we used our 0.6m telescope to observe the same part of the sky recently imaged by NASA Webb Telescope to test its Fine Guidance Sensor. Quite a difference! Less than 48 hours until the release of the first images. #UnfoldTheUniverse
