Ever tried to pull together data from multiple published sources? Wondered how other folks in soils did it? We did too! Todd-Brown etal 2022 doi.org/10.5194/bg-19-… 1/N

Hot take, regex is a dominant language not because of its intrinsic qualities but because its programs are short enough to be conveniently pasted in any location

This also means that the code for simulating root loss with OpenSimRoot is now available to everyone at gitlab.com/rootmodels/Ope… Please note that the most recent OSR updates still need to be integrated, this will happen over the next few weeks.

I have successfully completed GSoC 2022😄 Thanks to PEcAn for giving me this wonderful opportunity. My special thanks to my mentors Chris Black, shashank singh and David LeBauer for helping me out throughout the program. medium.com/@tanishqjain01…

#RStats, how would YOU approach unit-testing function behavior that differs depending which of several Suggested packages are/aren’t available? I’m suspecting I need to build custom library paths AND test in fresh sessions each time, but would love to be wrong

Chris Black (@infotroph) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I implemented Kara Woo’s suggestion in four lines and five minutes, where my previous best idea would need like 150 lines of surely-buggy helper code plus a surely-tedious blog post about what a hack it was. I’ll take “Too short to blog about” over “Lessons learned” every time.

Here’s a “fun” #RStats inconsistency: > packageVersion("lattice") [1] ‘0.20.45’ > getNamespaceVersion("lattice") version "0.20-45" which makes sessioninfo::package_info report the on-disk version differently depending whether pkgs=“installed” or pkgs=“loaded”

Finally, this paper is published: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.11… This was an effort to know how elevated CO2 impacted root growth in cassava and evaluated the application of the GPR to detect roots in the field. This would be so great to play with but I have maybe 70% of the skills and 10% of the free time to implement it. Who wants a generative systems challenge?

This is a baller move. 1400 revdeps to manage from purrr alone and he’s in there making fixes *with extra cleanup* to projects with like 3 stars and 1 contributor. This is how you build community.

Very happy to have our paper on the utility of different maize root phenotypes under drought out. Sometimes fewer roots is better! Includes a big update to OSR! frontiersin.org/articles/10.33… Big thanks to Ishan Ajmera, Markus Owen, Leah Band, Etienne Farcot and Jonathan Lynch.

Hey folks, I’ll be at #AGU2022 and I’d love to see you, but I think I’m leaving Twitter home this time. Email me or find me in the soil carbon sessions, I guess? I forget how one even conferences without a hashtag.
