In another Sisyphean effort, I played my 5th rapid tournament in 8 days today, coming 2nd (I won the other 4). Going to give rapidplay a rest now, and try to play some classical for a few weeks.

As the great English philosopher GM Nigel Short once said, when your opponent offers a draw, stop and consider why he thinks he’s losing! Putin is showing more interest in negotiations because his position is getting worse, and he knows Trump will help.

Since the trolls are in high gear to push this Putin-Trump agenda against Ukraine, a reminder that partition and occupation don’t end the war or end the slaughter at all. Russian occupation is slavery and death. Russian deals are lies. Russian ceasefires are fleeting.

As the #Sussexunichess IM norm invitational is approaching fast we asked the players some questions. Starting with the top seed burn those metal mother fookers to the ground 1) tactician or positional grinder? more of a tactician for sure 🔥🔥

Today it’s Peter Large turn to answer some of our questions 1) Name a game you wish you had played Timman v Geller Amsterdam 1973 chessgames.com/perl/chessgame…

2) Any rituals before a big game? I clean my glasses. It’s not so much a ritual, more that otherwise I can’t see the board. 👓👀🙈

11-year-old superstar Supratit Banerjee beating IM Peter Large in the #KingstonChess tournament. The secret of his success? He's the only pre-teen player who does NOT have a cluster of huge water bottles beside the board. Parents of chess kids, please note - less water, more Elo.

Two things I have learnt from the first 4 rounds of the Kingston Invitational: 1. I am a very weak player indeed. 2. Supratit is the real deal.

Be realistic! Trump doesn't like Zelensky and Ukraine for the same reason Putin doesn't: They are proud and courageous people fighting for human values that Trump and Putin will never understand, so they prefer to interpret them as weakness or madness.
