#CHPs are a critical link between their communities and formal health facilities. They visit households routinely - educating them on matters, healthy living (diets and hygiene measures), addressing minor illnesses and identifying serious health concerns that require referrals.

A team from six health-related projects paid a courtesy call to the Health County Executive, James Wangiros, to share a brief on their ongoing Amref Health Africa in Kenya -funded and implemented projects in Turkana.

The representatives, led by Chief of Party for the USAID UAT Project, Dr. Chris Barasa, were from USAID Imarisha Jamii, USAID Msingi Imara, World Relief Kenya’s The Global Fund TB project, and Denmark in Kenya-funded projects – SIWA (a WASH project) and Transcend (a Health project).

The discussions focused on improving the quality of care, prevention measures, access to safe water, and enhanced coordination of partner activities.

Group Antenatal Care model ensures mothers complete all 8 antenatal sessions as recommended by World Health Organization (WHO). In County Government of Turkana, with USAID Kenya funding, we support health facilities to retain mothers and provide knowledge for safe delivery while fostering social support. #Amref4PHC

Mary* says that it is consistency & following the medical advice helped her baby to be HIV-negative after 2 years of prophylaxis medication. With USAID Kenya funding, while working with County Government of Turkana, we have reduced mother-to-child HIV transmission from 13.5%- 8.6% (KDHS).

Undetectable equals Untransmissible (U=U) means that people with #HIV who achieve and maintain an undetectable viral load by taking antiretroviral therapy (ART) daily cannot sexually transmit the virus to others. This means that treatment is also a preventive measure for #HIV.

Queen Kweta attended all 8 antenatal clinic appointments at AIC Likichoggio & 4 Group Antenatal Care (GANC) sessions before giving birth. We marked the graduation of 1382 boys after completion of the 12-week - 12 sessions of the Coaching Boys Into Men (CBIM) program in Turkana County. CBIM program aims at motivating boys aged 10-12 years on healthy relationship skills and advocacy against gender-based violence.
