A privilege to hear Behrouz Boochani speak in Parliament House today, urging the Government to support the Greens' bill and end the cruelty and suffering for the 150 refugees still stuck in Nauru & PNG after 10 long years.

Any time a politician claims that building a sports stadium will β€˜create jobs,’ remind them that building public housing also creates jobs. If you spend billions on literally anything, it’s going to create jobs. But building public housing also helps reduce homelessness.

I just asked Tanya Plibersek in Question Time why she approved 116 Santos gas wells in the middle of a climate crisis. Her response was to launch into a rehearsed tirade against β€˜the Greens political party’, bringing up the CPRS πŸ™„& defending the new gas wells as an 'expansion'

I keep waiting for TERFs to have a Mitchell & Webb -esque "are we the baddies?" moment, but I guess if marching with literal NAZIs seig heiling on the street hasn't sparked that reckoning, not sure anything will.

The climate time-bomb is ticking but the latest IPCC report shows that we have the knowledge & resources to tackle the climate crisis. We need to #ActNow to ensure a livable planet in the future. ipcc.ch/report/ar6/syr/

Today's IPCC report is grim reading - but the call from the UN Secretary General could not be clearer: No new coal. No new gas. Net Zero by 2035.

I'm guessing the irony of setting a "48 hour deadline" for the Greens to support a blatantly bad climate policy *directly* after the IPCC issued another warning about the urgency of climate action has 100% whizzed passed the Australian government.

Absolutely mind boggling to state that demanding policy that reduces emissions is "purist", 1 week after the IPCC report Just so, so grim that this is the dominant view, rather than a rare one, among the institutions that see themselves as holding government to account.

Really just extremely telling how everyone who performatively did sad head shaking when the Greens threatened to vote with the Coalition against Safeguard amendments really just shuts the hell up when Labor votes with the coalition.

Fed Labor has approved 3 new coal mines in 2 months, incl. a thermal coal mine. 2 years ago the experts said if we wanted any chance of avoiding catastrophic global heating than we had to stop approving new coal mines. Labor are acting like climate change doesn't exist.

The perverse situation that if you end up being able to afford a backyard it’s only after your kids no longer really need it

Everytime something huge happens in Australian politics, I wish John Clarke was still with us to provide a new Clarke & Dawe instalment. What fun he would have had with the nomination forms debacle.
