Heads up, Williamson & Johnson County drivers! Southbound I-57 will close between exits 40 and 45 at 7 p.m. today, Oct. 14, for emergency pavement repairs. All lanes reopen by 12 a.m. Oct. 15. Detour: Eastbound I-24 to exit 16, south of Marion. Northbound I-57 remains open.

Huge win for safety, mobility, and active transportation in southern Illinois! This week, City of Carbondale Government opened the new 2.4-mile Saluki Greenway, featuring a 10-foot-wide, ADA-accessible multiuse path that offers a safer alternative to traveling along the highway.

Heads up, Saline County! Illinois 34 will close between West End Road and Ebenezer Road at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, for culvert work. McFarland Road stays open for cross traffic. A detour using Illinois 149, 37 and 13 will be in place. Work wraps up by 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8.

🎄 Good news, Union and Johnson counties! Interstate 57 has reopened from Interstate 24 to Illinois 146. The concrete overlay is complete. Only minor work remains, with minimal impacts expected, and final work is scheduled to be wrapped up by spring 2026.
