We were pleased to attend the #womensparliament in Cambridge today to mark #InternationalWomensDay. Great to share about the #IstanbulConvention & the UK's ratification with reservations ✍️

.IC Change is a grassroots organization which has campaigned for signature & ratification of Council of Europe #IstanbulConvention. Glad #UK ratified convention but there’s so much work ahead for its effective implementation & to ensure the protection of all #women from violence.

Cross party support, role of parliaments & building alliances including with specialised women’s organizations & service providers is v. important. As parliamentarians important you hold government accountable.

Made sure all members new of the amazing work of Eilidh Whiteford and her team as well as the brilliant folk of IC Change who worked relentlessly with civil society organisations and charities to get the legislation through and ensure it was then ratified.

After the Istanbul Convention was finally ratified in 2022, looking forward to GREVIO and UK Parliament holding the UK govt accountable for delivery. Discussed how far we still have to go before all survivors access their rights with Southall Black Sisters and IC Change today
