#OnThisDay in 1989 Widnes retained the championship with a 32-18 victory against Wigan in a sold out title decider at Naughton Park! 🏆 ⚫️⚪️

Good to be at St.Helens R.F.C. tonight. 40-0 tells its own story. Saints were hot and Catalans not. You have to play what’s in front of you and while the Dragons were miles off it, Miles off it, Saints put them to the sword. Whitby was a standout. Best talent around SL.

Congrats Gov. very astute appointment by the Wids. And a popular choice in the town, no doubt about it. Experienced operator and a top player at many clubs.

Great to catch up with former GB skipper and St.Helens R.F.C. and Widnes Vikings legend George Nicholls. Was in great form at 81 years young at Widnes CC last night. Some of the tales he has will go down in folklore. A powerhouse as a player and a gentleman off the pitch 🙌🏻

Sad day for RL. A great servant and one of the best commentators. And a top fella. Always had time for you. First met him as a student looking for a break, Ray, with Steve Roberts, gave it to me. Ended up on his RL programme at the BBC. Honour to have known him.

And one of the teams who is regarded as a favourite has a ground that’s not even fit for a veolia tip. It’s that bad they’d reject the rubble

Expanding to 14 just seems madness. Many reasons why this is a bad idea but surely there’s not enough REAL quality of the field. My view, is that it’s simply not there. There’s not enough quality players. The teams coming in will be completely behind the curve.

Can someone bring this day back. This is what a real division 1 coach looks like folks. I might be biased but the man was a magician with what he did with the club.

Sad Widnes Vikings news coming in. Jimmy Cassidy had passed away. Very good player was Jimmy. Played in a tough period of Vikings history, but had talent and showed it. Never let anyone down in ▪️⚪️

Exclusive: London will appoint Jason Demetriou as coach regardless of the division they are in - but Mike Eccles WILL be retained at the club. The Broncos' new owners have spoke with Eccles about a new role and are keen to keep him: and he's keen to stay. loverugbyleague.com/post/mike-eccl…
