I feel like we’ve been underestimating the power of the zoom chat. Just did a WODB with students and received so many excellent responses through the chat! This is a great tool for students who don’t want to unmute themselves. Teachers, encourage participation through the chat!

I TA for Ss who have been learning calc online all semester, which is tough! They had a sudden change in profs last week, so I took a moment to check-in during discussion. Some of them hadn’t spoken all semester but very positively responded to my check-in. Heart is warm! #MTBoS

Educators, sometimes it’s ok to just give your students a day to get caught up.

We need to teach our students HOW to listen, respond, and ask good questions during a discussion. We cannot expect them to engage in productive mathematical discourse without first demonstrating the skills necessary to do so! #iteachmath #MTBoS

Why can’t Ss have blankets on zoom? I often have one during my classes. People have messaged me saying it’s a great idea! It doesn’t mean I’m falling asleep, and it doesn’t mean I’m not listening. It just means I’m more comfortable, and I do my best work when I’m comfortable 😊

Today’s joy: one of my calc Ss always writes sentences explaining his thinking, but he does it in a very funny way. Examples include “yikes, definite integral. let’s try some u-substitution” or “let’s take the derivative of this mess of a function!” #iteachmath #mtbos
