Syrian Kurds aren’t impressed by the SANA Kurdish edition. It isn’t 1990 anymore. They have access to hundreds of Kurdish media outlets based out of DAANES territory, KRI, Turkey and the diaspora, plus social media. One new platform isn’t even a symbolic gesture.

Today, journalist Sherwan Sherwani was sentenced in #Erbil to 4.5 additional yrs in prison for allegedly insulting/ threatening a prison officer. The sentence brazenly exceeds the 2 yr maximum stipulated in article 229 of the 1969 #Iraqi Penal Code under which he was convicted.

During the trial in #Erbil, the capital of #Kurdistan Region where KDP Asayish is in control, plainclothes men attacked Sherwani's family members and MPs, tearing their clothing and insulting them.
