Energy budget is probably the most determinant factor in endurance performance, limiting the capacity to adapt and perform. There is not speed w/o force. There is not power w/o calories. An athlete needs 1600w to produce 400w (20% avg eff.). Are you pushing your energy budget?

Anyone have much experience with aero calf guards for people with XL (44cm+) sized calves? Ether fit or testing. I’ve found in a few I’ve tried the aero fabric can get quite stretched basically loosing it trips.

Triathletes you’re a bit late to the party when it comes to putting bottles/camelbacks down the front of your Jersey for aero…….. HTC were doing it back in 2009

So having a coach doesn’t necessarily mean someone will be winning races all the time. We have to ditch that point of view. Having a coach means you are willing to accept the help of a third person who can see and solve a problem you do not see or do not have a solution for.

A coaches job is to develop people That's the secret to the great coaches Their job isn't winning. That's an effect Why? Obsessive focus on the outcome shifts your motivation & perspective. You stop seeing athletes as people & you treat them accordingly. They stop developing..

Very interesting women’s marathons so far. Stenson, Gregson, Lindwurm and a few others running their own steady pace while it appears the African runners are running very “surgey”

Interestingly in an interview post Olympics/pre IM Frankfurt, Kristian Blummenfelt felt that looking back at his Olympic preparations he did too much threshold/capacity work and not enough high end work. His performance on the weekend definitely adds some substance to his beliefs

I wrote a piece where I breakdown why I think an often used study to say low cadence training doesn’t work isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. This is the first time I’ve ever done something like this so any feedback would be appreciated open.substack.com/pub/hopperspor…

Recently people have started to be surprised with how fast Ironman racing is becoming in this “post covid” era. This is not only for the pro but also the Age Groupers. I decided to write a blog on what might be driving these improvements. open.substack.com/pub/hopperspor…

Heat training is starting to become a major intervention for athletes. Here’s my experiences with heat training as someone who suffers a lot when it comes to dealing with the heat. open.substack.com/pub/hopperspor…
