Most land on the planet is under some kind of human management. We cannot afford letting landscapes to become biodiversity deserts anywhere. How can we restore biodiversity and ecosystem services in agricultural land? Can we use rewilding principles? Yes we can. 3/#

By combining local set-asides for rewilding with ecologically intensified farming. We can restore dispersal, trophic complexity and stochastic disturbances in the set-aside land, but also in the agricultural matrix, within boundaries of what is possible on managed landscapes. 4/#

This moves the debate of landscape management beyond land-sharing / land-sparing to consider the opportunities of cross-scale landscape management. And gets us moving towards Target 1 of the UN Biodiversity GBF: #fullearth. 5/5

I find this statement from the 🇩🇪 Chancellor unfathomable. Israel has of course all the right to self defense. Killing thousands of children in Gaza is a war crime and "preemptively" attacking Iran in the middle of negotiations is hard to justify.

🌍 Are conservationists too focused on species numbers? 📊 Jonathan Chase thinks biodiversity metrics don’t fully capture the complex, multivariate changes happening in ecosystems. 🎧#InsideBiodiversity tackles this question in episode 3 — Listen now! 🔗insidebiodiversity.podigee.io

Here we go… I would prefer we stay closer to the evidence and less on the emotions of this. This response seems to go for the latter.

So a lot of people are very angry with me for thinking that a weapon that +160 states have banned because 80% of casualties are civilians, half of those are children, should continue to be banned. Ok guys (it’s always guys). But you’re wrong and let me tell you why.

Great discussion. But why does it take so much effort to get to this more complete discussion (and frankly, why is the more complete discussion so obscured by the study itself, press releases, and coverage)? It’s almost as if the social and professional incentives of high-impact
