I'm researching the best way to teach spelling & you'll be shocked to hear that TEACHING spelling improves spelling!! Reading a lot does not mean your kid will be a good speller - you do actually need to teach them.

If your child is using a computer, typing should be explicitly taught - it will not be learned properly organically - That's why I typed faster than my college students despite them having computers since birth.

Anyone used either Spelling Safari or Sequential Spelling's online option? I'm doing a deep dive into spelling right now - interested in people's experiences with online adaptive programs.

Went to the library today. It's summer so it was FILLED with kids. Guess how many of them I saw reading a book - ZERO. All of them were playing video games on the computers or their own phones. What's to become of all these kids?
