Day 52. Do you ever have those days when everything disappoints you? When it seems like everything you have been fighting for, moving towards and trying to grow falls to the ground in a flaming heap? The best cure? Go home and play with your toddler. Try again tomorrow. #VPbyday

Day 53. Our first attempt at Student Involved Conferences today. It was really wonderful to see our students taking ownership of their learning and leading their conferences with confidence, humility and evidence of deep self-reflection. Good job secondary! #VPbyday #conferences

Day 55. Sometimes you just have to admit that your body needs a rest. Struggled into work today but by 10am it was clear I should have been in bed resting. But sure how I'm going to manage a flight with a toddler by myself tomorrow but somehow I just need to get it done. #VPbyday

LIfe update! Found out illness was actually pregnancy and I was struck down with hyperemesis again. Fast forward to April when I decided the best thing for myself and my family was to start my maternity leave and focus on enjoying my children. I am now a SAHM until June 2024!

Day 1. First day Graded School was fabulous. So luck to be starting my next #internationaleducation adventure at such a prestigious and forward- thinking institution. The warmest of Brazilian welcomes and the most spectacular campus. #internationalschool #leadership #GradedBR

Day 2. Really excited by the learning lab and deeper learning coordinators Graded School. As a total pedagogy nerd it's a dream to work in a school with its own R&D department. Amazing teachers sharing their wisdom and understanding in a way that's humble, accessible and engaging.

Day 3. Graded School and the incredible HR team rolling out the red carpet for newbie week. How many of you ended the work day with a live samba band? #GradedBR #newbieweek #orientation #wheninbrazil

Day 4. A really thoughtfu session around disarming harmful convrsations. Proud to be part of a school community that is not afraid to do the work and feel the discmonfort when discussing DEI issues. Bonus that I get to meet and work with Dr. Derrick Gay again in September! #DEI

Day 5. Made it to the last day of newbie orientation! A day of planning, questions and starting to shift into AP mode ready for all staff orientation on Monday. It feels good to be working again! Graded School #apnotvp #thereareneverenoghpostits

Day 6. As I start the eeek of orientation with faculty, I try and hold myself accountable for being the best version of myself (and start getting back into shape after 3 years of pregnancies and breastfeeding). Its only half an hour in the morning, but it's a start. #apnotvp

Day 2. Amazing morning session with Julie Stern introducing conceptual transfer and aligning this pegadagogy with Graded School work on assessment practices. So excited to be working with such a knowledgeable and committed team of teachers. #conceptualtransfer #assessmentforlearning

Day 8. Transitioning to a new workplace is hard. For every published policy or process, there are a bevvy of cultural or institutional norms that aren't explicit until you bump up against them. I spent a lot of time apologising today. #apnotvp #institutionalnorms #culturalnorms

Day 9. Today was the day I experienced my 'I can't do this' moment. Breathe, stand back, and reaffirm. I am here because I'm the best person for the job at this moment. Here are my professional boundaries. Please respect them. #apnotvp #donttestme #ihaveearnedmyspaceatthetable

Day 10. Made it to the end of all staff orientation! Starting to put faces and names together as well as understand the riptides and undercurrents of working with so many wildly talented but also unique personalities. Now time to disconnect and enjoy the weekend! #apnotvp

Day 11. The first day back for students! The energy on campus Graded School was so positive and affirming. Secretly proud of myself for speakign in front of over 500 people without messing up and being able to slip back into this role with a comfortable familiarity. #apnotvp

Day 12. Taught my first ToK lesson today. Not sure what is bringing me greater joy - getting creative planning classes, collaborating, or working with students in a classroom. Either way it feels REALLY great to be back in a teaching capacity, if only for one class. #apnotvp

Day 13. Third day off work and I was the only high school admin on campus plus given the responsibility to introduce a massive technical shift in the way we record assessment. This was the day that resilience and experience took on new meaning. I'm exhausted. #apnotvp

Hina Hashmi (@hinathashmi) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Day 14. A lot of reflection on how I could handle tricky meetings better. Reset norms. Be firmer when it's time for dialogue and not discussion. Be utterly confident in taking up the space I'm in. Courtesy is free and should be an expectation regardless of opinion. #apnotvp

Day 15. Made it the end of my first week! Utterly exhausted. Still, had a fabulous afternoon of classroom pop-ins. What a great way to remember why we do admin work in the first place - to let the amazing, creative, and talented faculty focus on what they do best.#apnotvp
