You don't have to be a captain to lead. You don't have to be an upperclassman. You don't have to be the most talented. You don't have to be the most popular. You do have to earn respect. You do have to earn your role. You do have to be consistent. You do have to be authentic.

All of your experiences are part of the journey. Embrace it. It's the preparation you'll need to get to where you want to go. When I look back on my own journey, the people that had the greatest impact on me were my coaches and teammates. Becky Hammon on sports and mindset:

What have sports taught you about life?

John Wooden never mentioned winning to his players. Winning takes your focus off of the process. We won’t be able to sustain success if we get distracted by it. Don’t get distracted. Stay focused on the process.

To get noticed, give maximum effort… even when you're exhausted. To get noticed, play with poise… even when things don't go your way. To get noticed, be a great teammate… even when they make a mistake. To get noticed, make a difference… even when you're not at your best.

Procrastination simply opens the door for someone else, seize YOUR opportunity right away, don't wait.

One of Monty Williams’ mantras is, “I’m not calling you out, I’m calling you up.” Think of accountability as being called up, not out. If someone is holding you accountable, it’s because they know you’re capable of more. Rise up to being called up.

ATTACK this summer with purposeful work! Don't be the player who comes back next year the exact same player as last year!

Thank you to all that have sent me get well messages. The latest is that I’m still ill, with no voice, energy or appetite. This variant has proven to be much more difficult to battle since testing positive two weeks ago. I hope to be back ASAP. Thank you.

I want to take a moment to remind everyone that this would have been Terrence Clarke’s big night as well. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about him, his mom, Osmine, and their family. I can only imagine how wide that smile of his would have been hearing his name called.

Being a high school coach has taught me a lot about training. Main take away is SIMPLE WINS and SIZZLE LOSES. Players, make sure you’re working on things that’ll help you succeed and help your team win, not things that’ll garner social media likes.

Nicholas Co. baseball coach Travis Sims has died after his long battle with cancer. Sims was not only multiple 10th Region Coach of the Year winner, but a great man and loved by many. May he rest his peace. My thoughts are with his family, friends and the Nicholas Co. community.
