What’s missing from the Vivi/prowess pattern of play is the interactive sequencing that makes Magic feel like a knife fight. It’s all the airlessness of control with next-to-none of the strategy and an aggro result with a fraction of the risk.

I say this as someone who enjoyed playing it until I realized it’s basically a cantripping autodamage minigame, it’s absurd

I’m saying like winning is fun (esp profitably!) but playing Magic is fun too! Vivi is Magic-adjacent. Giving my fellow players the benefit of the doubt that they are as conscientious as this.

Recommend watching the Arena Championship Vivi Cauldron mirror matches - boils the deck down to some pretty interesting strategy and tactics around interaction. Still a poverty of actual playing Magic imo. Lantern Control as Cauldron Solitaire.

You have a land to play, and when your grip is low, down to the wire, you sandbag it. It's a little childish and stupid, but then, so are combat tricks.

Any player or creature after 1994 doesn’t “suffer” damage. All they know is Cecil, shock they lands, double, be lifegain, eat hot chip & lie

Rust harvester is too slow by half. 2 generic no-tap once-per-turn would be plenty fair, no cap would be busted. As-is it’s a decent artifacts one drop nothing more. Glad I goldfished it before spending any wildcards.

This is the psychological bit I’ve been on about - sideways 128/128 Mossborn hydra feels like fair explosive Magic, long-ass cantrip-combo turns do not.
