Jeremy Strong is now an honorary Canadian, having just won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Supporting Actor (Drama) for THE APPRENTICE (a Canadian coproduction). Kieran Culkin, you are welcome here, too, I guess.

Something deeply and depressingly funny about the Canadian Screen Awards just now naming THE APPRENTICE as Best Picture. #CdnScreenAwards

Three of the four major Canadian Screen Awards' film acting categories have been claimed by non-Canadians (Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong, Cate Blanchett). No joke from me, just facts! #CdnScreenAwards

The best, worst, and weirdest moments of a profoundly wobbly, tariff-era Canadian Screen Awards. Guys, for 2026, we gotta start from scratch because this isn’t working. #CdnScreenAwards theglobeandmail.com/arts/film/arti…

ICYMI (ie., were justifiably asleep), my take on last night’s Canadian Screen Awards, a deeply wobbly affair — which went out of its way to celebrate non-Canadian talent — that proves the entire organization needs a revamp for 2026. #CdnScreenAwards

Crave adding last night’s Canadian Screen Awards to its streaming catalogue feels just a shade above pointless. If Canadian broadcasters (CBC, Bell, Corus, Rogers) genuinely care about promoting homegrown productions, they should band together to simulcast the gala live.

Ratings for Sunday's Canadian Screen Awards are in, and they're ... good? 929K people watched CBC telecast, up 45% over 2024 #CdnScreenAwards, with 2+ avg min audience of 170K, up 12% over last year. On CBC Gem, views up 91% from 2024, though streamer doesn't offer exact figures.

The blank-firing BALLERINA (or, FROM THE WORLD OF JOHN WICK: BALLERINA) burns the Wick franchise at both ends. At least Anjelica Huston gets to pull a M:I-era Ving Rhames move by refusing to ever get up from her seat. theglobeandmail.com/arts/film/revi…

BREAKING: Canada's levelFILM, which was established in 2013 and distributed everything from SCARBOROUGH to I USED TO BE FUNNY (and most recently handled VILLAGE KEEPER, winner of best first feature at 2025 Canadian Screen Awards), shuts down immediately "due to market realities"

Hard to think of a better audience question coming out of this week’s #BanffMediaFestival than the guy who just asked the Netflix Canada team: “Why won’t you return my emails?” All in good fun!

Mood at #BanffMediaFestival might be best described as politely furious. After CRTC chair Vicky Eatrides comes out to essentially say promises of C-11 are coming, be patient, Rogers’ Colette Watson stresses, “We’ve been thinking of modernizing for 10 years. …We need fewer rules”

Hard to not be puzzled by time/energy that went into "Canadian Screen Industry Statement of Values," which just released @ #BanffMediaFestival, in which 70+ orgs "publicly affirm" vision for future (equity, sustainability, other worthy goals) that's already well-defined in sector

The best (in a depressing way) quote of the day at #BanffMediaFestival goes to Kevin Johnson of WPP Media who, asked what everyone was talking about at this conference three years ago that no one is discussing today: “Diversity.”
