Spitting pure facts I’m afraid. So many stories fall into the gap of inauthenticity to copy paste what they see in western movies rather than do the work of recontextualizing it for the Nigerian realities we actually face.

Sickle Cell Day hits different this year. We lost someone dear, a warrior whose love and strength helped carry this work. Today, we honour her. And all the warriors we’ve lost. We carry their stories. We keep going — for them, and for those still holding on. #WorldSickleCellDay

I would argue they aren’t storytellers, they’re business people. It requires a certain amount of love and devotion to consider someone a storyteller and a vast majority of them don’t love storytelling and filmmaking to read, watch, critically study and learn the genre’s.

I don't understand? Are the filmmakers altruistic? Is this a social movement? Will you get away from here with your winter boots!!!

I haven’t even scratched the surface of film criticism and I’ve been at it for like five years, please get out of my face.

One fundamental obstacle facing our film & TV industries—yet one that almost never comes up in convos—is that we approach the business of art & culture with a trader's mentality. So, if we do not see an avenue for a direct cash-for-goods exchange, we assume it means bad business.

And this is before you account for other key negatives like the skills dearth problem, the class prejudice problem, the region prejudice problem, and the impatience problem.

Criticism will always be important in the arts. The arts will always blossom in a place that questions why a thing should exist and what it says. There are many questions to be asked of artistic expression and sometimes in answering them, we discover that intention ≠ execution.

i barely read fiction so i refuse to watch movies at any speed other than 1x. moving pictures are my escape into imagined worlds, and i prefer to experience them exactly as the director intended.

I find myself surprisingly calm about this window. Because either we’ll get the moves done that we need to, or we’ll receive a pretty undeniable confirmation from the club’s leadership that their ambition is severely limited and we can change our emotional investment accordingly.
