It is a great honor to be nominated by the Durant Administration as Secretary of Veterans Affairs. As a veteran myself, I know the difficulty of not being properly represented in the cabinet, and I am here to tell you, you WILL be represented. Your voices will be heard.

As a veteran of this country, and the nominee for Secretary of Veterans Affairs, I believe that everyone who has the courage to serve this great nation should receive the benefits they deserve, regardless of sexual orientation. I am proud to see Congress supporting our veterans.

With Henry Taylor as your Secretary of Veterans Affairs, not a single promised benefit will be stripped from our nations veterans, and I will personally make sure these benefits actually support our American heroes. I am joining this office to serve those who served us.

As someone who was born and raised in San Diego, my prayers go out to everyone affected by the rapidly spreading fires. I am confident in the local and state fire departments abilities to swiftly put out these fires, and I thank all firefighters for their service and dedication.

General Brooks was not only an outstanding leader, but an amazing friend. I had the honor of meeting the General at Marine Barracks Washington years ago during my time as Secretary of Veterans Affairs. I am extremely saddened to hear about his death, and I pray for his family.

The Press Room has been prepped, and the Department of Veterans Affairs is ready to be completely transparent to the American people on our policies and plans. The media is the backbone of this countries success, and I believe in complete honesty when it comes to the public.

I think Secretary Henry Taylor is doing a fine job at the VA. As his wife, I couldn't be prouder.

I visited the White House today for the first cabinet meeting of the Obama Administration. It was an honor to speak in front of such an amazing group of individuals about the status and development of the Veterans’ Affairs department, and I look forward to working with them all.
