All the following are true at the same time: 1) we have come a long way 2) we are not decarbonizing fast enough 3) those saying that the end is nigh are invariably also blocking much of the tech, policies and processes that are necessary to speed up decarbonization

I am daily astonished by the punters on here that come up with dozens of compelling reasons why this whole #renewable dominated grid thing will never work, is too complicated, not dense enough, etc Ignoring the near global Acceleration of just that such thing…

bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… This planning refusal is insane. This is an incredibly productive industry choosing to develop a former landfill site with excellent transport links.

80 years ago today at 0730 my Grandfather landed on a Normandy beach as part of 231 Brigade. Now I’m grown up I wish I’d asked him more about it. It’s hard to imagine the combination of terror and exhilaration he must have felt.

A week ago Imperial War Museums posted this film clip (IWM A70 33-1) of an unnamed Royal Engineers captain briefing troops before D-Day. I was curious to see if the officer could be identified. A thread... 🧵

Great thread. I’m pretty sure that A2A is not permitted development. But it’s very rare for anyone to apply for planning permission (< 10 applications for any heat pumps in my Local Authority). So the rules suggest you need planning permission but practice suggests otherwise.

If we want mass adoption of heat pumps something needs to be done with extortionate fees on MCS businesses. If you install gas, gas safe will cost you £185 PA. If you install heat pumps all your fees add up to £2,000 PA. How is this fair?
