Highly recommend reading Movendi International's latest newsletter for #WorldCancerDay and listening to their fantastic podcast on #alcoholandcancer! Amazing to hear first-hand experiences of community action to raise awareness and drive alcohol policy change for cancer prevention 👏
Cancers caused by alcohol have a profound impact on economies across Europe In 2018, over 23K people aged under 65 died from alcohol-related cancer in 31 countries This cost at least €4.6 billion although this is a significant underestimate Harriet Rumgay ias.org.uk/2023/04/25/at-…
New World Health Organization (WHO) calls on governments to recommit to the Global Action Plan 2022-2030 with a focus on #SAFERPackage, including: ▶️Restricting availability of alcohol ▶️ Bans or comprehensive restrictions on #AlcoholMarketing ▶️ Increasing price of alcohol via tax & pricing policies
This is appalling and, unfortunately, not shocking at all due to the huge influence big industry has on our governments. I'm on my way back from the inspiring International Youth Health Organization #FILTERED conference on #ChallengingBigIndustryNarratives - our work is needed now more than ever!
