Appears #Myanmar citizens who spoke with visiting CNN team in #Yangon recently have been detained. Not unexpected as trip organized/orchestrated by #military. Like organized govt trips to #Rakhine, #Rohingyas feared speaking to journalists while watched #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar

The failure of the UN Security Council to even consider a strong resolution on Myanmar this week was regrettable. Using it as an excuse for inaction would be unacceptable. Coordinated international action to support those under siege & hold the junta accountable cannot wait.

.⁦Dr. Sasa⁩ told us earlier today ASEAN should not channel any humanitarian aid through the army. It would be an “insult” to invite “murderer-in-chief” Min Aung Hlaing to the upcoming ASEAN summit, he said. #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar reuters.com/article/us-mya…

#Myanmar’s military screened the pictures on the right - young women they had detained, bearing harrowing signs of abuse - on the nightly news today. They fact they felt free to show these images - and wanted to - speaks volumes. #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar

The result of the ASEAN Summit will be found in Myanmar, not a document. Will the killing stop? Will the terrorizing of neighborhoods end? Will the thousands abducted be released? Will impunity persist? Anxious to work w ASEAN's Spec Envoy & monitor Summit's actual results.

Expectations that ASEAN could resolve the Myanmar crisis were already quite low, and the summit has done little to change that impression. Calls for restraint from “all parties” is offensive and ridiculous, in line with rhetoric from China and Russia

If you kill someone, go to jail. If you kill tens, send to mental hospital. If you kill hundreds, invite you to discuss at the table. what a wonderful world! #ASEANSummit #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar CreditOriginalWriter
