People experiencing #homelessness or unstable housing are disproportionately affected by the #opioid toxicity crisis. Only 1/7 of these deaths occurred in the presence of someone who could intervene, indicating that most individuals used drugs alone. 2/3

The increase in deaths in #shelters highlights the critical need for greater investment in #harmreduction services, healthcare, social care, treatment programs, and ensuring adequate staff availability, training, and support in these environments. 3/3

Hiding the failures to provide supports, care, services to people living outside under the guise of caring for "parks" instead is really, really messed up.

this isn’t unexpected. The government has been purposefully targeting public health measures that keep transmission of HIV reduced. This is what’s going to happen here in Ontario with the closures of SCS and needle exchange.

This is like removing seatbelts because airbags are being installed. We need harm reduction AND treatment/supportive housing not either/or. More tools at our disposal means more lives saved. Regressive policy that values ideology over evidence will set us backwards.
