BurbSecCon It's ok to make a mistake in the moment, but don't double down on "rules". Here is evergreen advice from Deviant Ollam ツ on the subject of apologies. Everyone eventually has to make an apology. None of us are perfect. I suggest you reflect on this tweet: x.com/deviantollam/s…

Since BurbSecCon deleted it, here's the archive: bit.ly/30r95eb What's more disgusting is that they didn't even apologize, instead rationalizing and excusing it as if they had no choice in the matter.

BurbSecCon There should have been a disqualification on the basis of ethics. Why didn’t anyone bother to stand up for women of infosec during the judging process? Were there any female judges on the badge contest panel…? I don’t understand how y’all aren’t taking any accountability here.

BurbSecCon Wow really... Excited for some of the submissions next year... let me get my high-tech swastika going. It's not the best aesthetic, but you know, it really is engineering that counts if we're gonna post it online.

A note from Johnny: As faces of the community, we, nay *I* have a responsibility to guide it in a direction respectful and supportive of all those who seek to join instead of allowing the status quo of the old, misogynistic, guard to continue, thankfully dying as it may be. (1/7)

PSA: Shitty frat boy behavior at tech cons *always* bothered and pushed away a ton of people, but for decades the only way to network and do the work you loved was to shut up and deal with it with alcohol or a therapist, because shitty frat boys owned such a huge market share.

I mean, who do I believe? Mudge or the company that got recently hacked by a kid literally calling up twitter staff as the password inspector

The Twitter/Mudge situation is old? Here is what I read between the lines: - Jack Hires Mudge to fix shit - Mudge starts fixing shit - Jack sees his exit, takes it - New CEO Parag takes the helm - Mudge brings up issues to Parag - Parag starts saying no - Mudge has integrity

I don't care if Twitter lives or dies. On the off-chance it does? InfoSec is full of scumbags. By that, I mean to a degree a lot more than people realize or want to admit. "Integrity" is a core part of InfoSec, in theory. But not in reality, as far as practitioners go.
