"This has not come about by osmosis. TEU has campaigned hard, rallying local MPs, local media, local government, the wider community and our members. This is not the end goal however. It will only be a temporary reprieve if we don’t continue the pressure." teu.ac.nz/news/northtec-…

This morning’s announced tweaks to university strategy and oversight are useful but do little to address the real problem. Universities cannot deliver on the smell of an oily rag. It’s time to stop tinkering and get serious. teu.ac.nz/news/stop-tink…

I never thought that I would see the day when the Public Service Commission was used as an attack arm of the government. National Party polling must be telling them how popular the strikes are, and how unpopular they are. They are afraid. rnz.co.nz/news/political…

On Morning Report today Ingrid said "Should we say green shoots?" in response to a tiny lift in MBIE job ads. Anything that shows a better labour market should be welcomed - but is that really what's going on? The honest answer is not really - job ads are down 30% in 2 years. A🧵

With 400,000 people wanting more work and not being able to get it - small shifts in job ads won't cut it. There are 36,309 more people on Jobseeker over the past two years (217,818 in Sep 2025), and the only plan is to take it away from 18/19 year olds.

Unemployment reached a 9 year of 5.3%. The labour market took another turn for the worse - unemployment growing, underemployment growing, fewer hours being worked, and wages are not keeping up with inflation. This data is another sign the economy is not working. A thread

Craig Renney (@clrenney) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This government promised to get the economy back on track, & tackle the cost of living. On both measures its failing. Working New Zealanders & their families are hurting – and the promised recovery keeps being pushed back. New Zealand needs a plan – not promises of green shoots
