It’s happening! These new 6️⃣th graders launched their first @openscied on 💡. Ss asked some thoughtful ❓and we made our #dqb, sharing how our ❓ related/connected to others! Thanks to Kelly Biala for the 📸!

Our 6th grade OpenSciEd 6.1 Light and Matter unit is done! I posted this running model progression next to our #DQB and related phenomena list. As we uncovered new evidence & updated our models, we added to the progression. Look at our growth! 💡

In OpenSciEd's 6.6 Healing Unit, 7th graders used vertical whiteboards to summarize BIG IDEAS. Then, table groups revisited the initial healing timeline, id'ing their confidence rating for each event. Convos were so thoughtful about what they've figured out!

Ended OpenSciEd’s 6.6 Cells & Systems unit with a poster project alongside answering questions from our #DQB! Ss did so much figuring out about how their bodies heal at the cellular level! ❤️🦴🩸💪🏼❤️

The practice of asking ❓ is so important as we engage kids in science. Proud moment here with these 7th graders—their ❓are coherent in our storyline, use their developing vocabulary, & consider CCC. 🟠🟢🔵 OpenSciEd

Planning an investigation can be part of a navigation routine—informal and in teams even! After seeing ⬇️ complex carb levels linked with ⬆️glucose levels & reading that amylase is in saliva, here’s what 7th graders came up with for our next steps! OpenSciEd

Initial models for 7.4 (Matter Cycling & Photosynthesis). Connections to units Ss had previously is 👀: 6.6 (Cells), 7.1 (Chemical Reactions) & 7.3 (Metabolic Reactions). Ss see these connections yet recognize there is still so much more to figure out with 🌱🪴🫛 OpenSciEd

7️⃣th analyzed 🌱 data in 💡 & dark. I👂, “Do plants have like 2 moods? A photosynthesis mood & a cellular respiration mood? Are 🌱 like M’Kenna, using stuff that’s stored when they don’t get what they need?” The⛓️ btwn 7.3 + 7.4 are incredible to see unfold! OpenSciEd

My Goal: Get Ss to ask better ❓. A mini-lesson over an animated slide shows the progression of this task. Zoom-in & read❓7th created as part of the launch to OpenSciEd’s 8.5 Genetics Unit. 💙💚🧡
