This evening I joined elected colleagues, community members, and the family of Detective First Grade Didarul Islam for a vigil held at the NYPD 47th Precinct. Det. Islam died a hero in service to our city. We owe him more than words. His courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

After two and a half years in the State Assembly, I’m stepping into a new role as Dir. of Legislative Affairs at the NYC Department of Correction. This is a pivotal time for the agency, and I look forward to building on my experience to support the Department’s work and mission.

So glad Yeonsoo Go is home. But she should’ve never been taken. A 20-year-old student with no record was detained by ICE after doing everything right. This isn’t justice nor public safety. This is a clear example of ICE overreach and why real oversight and reform can’t wait.

I was proud to attend the JCRC of New York 2025 Gala at the Ziegfeld Ballroom, joining leaders from across New York in support of the vital work JCRC does every day. It was great to connect with colleagues throughout the evening, including my good friend and JCRC CEO Mark Treyger 🍎.
