The name Leo carries a proud legacy of standing with workers. Pope Leo XIII, known as the “Pope of the Workers,” defended the right to organize, fair wages, and safe conditions. I am heartened to see Pope Leo XIV choose this name and am hopeful he carries that mantle forward.

The elevation of Pope Leo XIV is a profound and historic occasion. Like so many around the world, I am praying for him and wishing him and the Church well as his papacy begins.
