What is the most abundant protein in an E. coli cell? It's Lpp, or "Braun's lipoprotein," which stabilizes the cell envelope by linking the outer membrane to the peptidoglycan. There are ~700,000+ of these proteins in a single E. coli. (All proteins, together, add up to 3-4M.)

It’s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). I’m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS, indeterminate dendritic cell histiocytosis

So happy that I can finally share the results of my first postdoc paper with Michael Baym!! Turns out plasmids are an amazing system to study multi-scale evolution and we can track within-cell and between-cell dynamics! Here’s a photo of plasmids competing inside cells in a colony (1/n)

Side quest: We needed precise control on the activation of the recombinase. We hypothesized that the FLP recombinase from the patagonian ancestor of the lager yeast would be thermosensitive (Lagers are cold brewed). It worked on the first attempt! (6/n)

Gentle reminder that deceptive hyping in scientific publications is actually antithetical to the core mission of the scientific process. Revealing caveats, pitfalls & limitations speeds up progress. We can stay grounded, truthful, humble while being ambitious.

New paper on co-zorbs from my lab. Co-zorbs seem to be a new way for bacteria to get around. Magesh, et al. (2025). Co-zorbs: Motile, multispecies biofilms aid transport of diverse bacterial species. PNAS, 122(6), e2417327122. doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2…

13/ Experience isn’t flashy. It’s quiet. It’s the instinct to pause, double-check, and rerun. That’s what makes a real bioinformatician.

Today, we’re announcing the first major discovery made by our AI Scientist with the lab in the loop: a promising new treatment for dry AMD, a major cause of blindness. Our agents generated the hypotheses, designed the experiments, analyzed the data, iterated, even made figures

Started in Abhishek’s lab as a new postdoc without any coding skills, and now I've contributed to a bacterial-tracking library and debugged critical issues while at that - super happy with this. Thanks to all my coauthors on this one! Cheers and here is to many more 🥂.
