I came to USA Dana-Farber with $600 in 1999 on a J-1 Visa. My mentor (the great Harald von Boehmer) payed 1st month of my rent. Switched to H-1B Visa The University of Chicago. Became a citizen in 2015 NYU Grossman School of Medicine. If I lived today in USA none of these would have happen #ImmigrantScience #Vote

Do US citizens understand how stressful it is to be an immigrant scientist in the US? Far from family/friends, never ending visa bureaucracy & payments, constant fear of not being allowed back in the US, or being forced to leave your home/job/PhD due to some ban

A gentle reminder that graduate students who are immigrants/international are ineligible for the GRFP -- just like they're excluded from almost all other graduate and postdoc fellowships in the US.

A sign of emotional intelligence is moving from “You made me feel” to “This is how I reacted.” Our emotions aren’t caused by other people’s actions. They’re shaped by our interpretations. Blaming others gives them power over our feelings. Taking responsibility empowers us.

Collegiality is often overlooked in the workplace. It is essential to maintain a sense of calm in the midst of conflict. Being easy to work with doesn’t mean you’re weak, it means that you have high self awareness and a “problem solving” mindset.

The thrill of getting is fleeting. The joy of giving lasts. Data: happiness fades quickly when we buy gifts for ourselves, but sustains when we give gifts to others or donate to charity. Giving is the greatest source of meaning. #GivingTuesday
