Sadly, Tony White, who coached me during my teenage years, passed away recently. Tony became a lifelong friend to Gav & I and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. I had previously written a tribute to Tony for my club & wanted to share it further. jopavey.com/single-post/20…

So honoured to be the first recipient of the Tony White Memorial Award. Tony coached me as a teenager to English schools & national titles. He was so inspirational & became a life long friend. I’ll always be extremely grateful to him. Volunteers are so crucial to our sport.

Look what arrived in the post! My World Championships 10000m bronze medal from 2007. Unfortunately I’ll never get that precious moment of standing on the podium in Osaka, but it’s so nice to have my medal. Gavin Pavey got our kids to award it to me, which was so lovely.

Really sad to hear of the death of George Gandy. George was a fantastic coach & great fun. Some great memories over the years. My thoughts are with his family & friends. RIP
