“What test scores predict best are other test scores. If we’re going to use proxies that have predictive validity, we need ones that predict performances that matter outside the context of school. The function of school is to enable Ss 2 do better in life.” (Eisner, 2001)

Ohio’s single party rule government serves interests, just not the interests of the people of Ohio. The people of our state deserve so much better.

I recall from 1981 my WWII vet history teacher’s passion for insisting we understand the importance of 12/7/41. We didn’t. My 16 year old son won’t understand the ceremony at his school today in the way I would like either. As we remember today, have compassion for the young.

I’m going to be out of town for business on Election Day. So I voted by mail. The Board of Elections website shows they have accepted my ballot to be counted. What is your plan to make sure your “voice” contributes to the governing of our republic?

I just looked at my most recent posts. My interactions here have declined. I don’t enjoy this place like I once did, but I like it better if I stay away from “for you”. Hmmm…

This happened when I was young, but I remember it. I’m guessing because my parents talked about it. My mom grew up in a coal camp so it probably struck close to home for her at the time.

My friends ⁦Apple⁩ reminded me that 8 years ago today the entrance facade on the old #Olney school began to be removed by the masonry geniuses at ⁦Rudolph Libbe Group⁩ for reinstallation in the new ⁦Northwood Schools⁩ school that opened in 2018. Time flies.

As I have reflected a bit in my remembrance on this 80th anniversary of D-Day, I remembered President Reagan’s speech in my 20th year and I watched President Biden’s speech today. I continue to try to wrap my arms around the enormous shoulders we stand upon. We owe so, so much.

On Labor Day this first generation college graduate is thankful for the UAW job at Chrysler my dad had that provided the shoulders upon which my middle class life stands. Labor is valuable and everyone deserves fair compensation for it.

This…as an almost 60 year old man, I appreciate Lee’s example on how to age joyfully and Kirk’s example on how to love unwaveringly. Not only should we not look away; we should appreciate the lessons being taught.
